The Sea Hawk

U.S., 1924

The Sea Hawk was an instant success upon its release in June of 1924 — both critically and financially. Based on the 1915 Rafael Sabatini novel, the film follows the thrilling story of a valiant nobleman, Sir Oliver Tressilian (Milton Sills), who is framed for murder by his own half-brother (Lloyd Hughes). After being forced to work as a sailor by Capt. Jasper Leigh (Wallace Beery), he is captured by a Spanish galleon and made a slave in the ship. Freed by a Moorish galley, Sir Oliver becomes the pirate Sakr-el-Bahr (Hawk of the Sea), and strives to recover his lost love, Lady Rosamund (Enid Bennett).

DCP, tinted, silent, 123 min. Director: Frank Lloyd. Screenwriter: Rafael Sabatini, J.G. Hawks. With: Milton Sills, Lloyd Hughes, Wallace Beery.
