Visualizing historical data presents some challenges, but Tableau Desktop, free to students, has features that work wonders! We'll focus on Los Angeles around 1913.
- Starting with a map of LA from the library's historical map collection, we'll swap out the (modern) base-map with one from our collection!
- Then, we'll set about showing how we've prepared a sample dataset based on an LA-based architect's papers from Special Collections.
- Finally, we'll pull in census data set from our licensed database: IPUMs.
Historical data never looked this good!
