UCLA Library Special Collections is opening the Ahmanson-Murphy Reading Room to researchers for limited seating and limited hours beginning May 4. Research visits are limited to current UCLA students, staff, and faculty with valid Bruincards. During this time, all research visits require an appointment, and users must login with their UCLA Single Sign-On (Shibboleth) credentials to make a reservation. Appointments in Library Special Collections are limited to users accessing LSC collections and are not available for general study space.

Appointments are available for three-hour blocks on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm. From 1pm-2pm, YRL and the LSC Reading Room and Lobby will be closed. Users do not have to stay for the entirety of their reservation, and users will be allowed to exit and re-enter LSC and YRL during the reservation period.

In order to provide equitable access to appointments, each user is limited to two three-hour appointments per week. Appointments may be reserved up to one month in advance, and must be made at least two weeks in advance of your visit in order to ensure delivery of collection materials.

Once your appointment is confirmed, you will receive an email auto-reply with directions on how to request collection materials for your visit.

Users must present the following items to gain entry into YRL during the building's limited hours. If you do not have all three, you will not be allowed to enter the building:

  • Current Bruincard
  • Confirmation of a reservation made in advance (e.g. email confirmation)
  • Proof of day of your reservation's Symptom Monitoring Survey (PDF approval form or email confirmation) dated the day of your reservation

By making a reservation and entering the building, you agree to follow all UCLA's COVID-19 guidelines and UCLA Library terms of use for the space, including wearing a mask. Repeated (or severe) policy violations will result in an inability to make future reservations. Disruptive conduct and flagrant violations of campus and Library policies will be reported to the appropriate campus offices for further action.
